How to care for a printed t-shirt — washing and care tips

Quality apparel printing — whether DTF or screen printing — lasts for years if you care for the garment properly. Here are simple rules to protect your design from cracking and fading.

Wash the shirt inside out

The most important rule: turn the shirt inside out before washing (print facing inward). This keeps the print from rubbing against other clothes and the washing machine drum, so the design stays vibrant much longer.

This applies to t-shirts, hoodies and any other printed items.

Choose the right temperature

Wash at 30 °C, 40 °C at most. Hot water is the main enemy of a print — it can soften the transfer layer and cause cracking.

Use a gentle cycle and a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and large amounts of fabric softener — over time they weaken the print.

Air dry, skip the tumble dryer

The best way is to air dry the shirt inside out, away from direct sunlight. Tumble dryer heat is one of the most common reasons a print starts peeling or cracking.

If you must use a dryer, choose a low-heat setting.

Iron the right way

Never iron directly over the print. Iron the garment inside out or place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the design. Avoid using steam over the print.

How long does a print last?

Follow these simple rules and quality DTF printing and screen printing will survive many wash cycles — a shirt with your own design will look great for years.
